Imagine you and your friend each have a magic coin. You don't flip them — they're already spinning, forever, in a superposition of heads-and-tails. You can't see them spinning. Nobody can. As long as they spin, they're both outcomes at once.
Now here's the trick: these two coins are entangled. That means they're described by a single shared mathematical object — one wavefunction, not two. You cannot write down what coin A is doing without also writing down coin B. They're one system spread across two locations.
You take your coin and fly to Mars. Your friend stays on Earth. The coins keep spinning.
Then — you catch yours. It stops spinning. It lands heads.
Instantly, regardless of the distance, your friend's coin also stops spinning — and it lands tails. Not "a moment later." Not "a signal traveling between them." The correlation is baked into the shared state at the moment of creation. Catching one doesn't send information to the other; it reveals something that was true about the joint system all along.
The part that breaks people's brains:
